French Art
Deco Furniture
In the early 20th century, the Modern movement in decorative arts also created new standards for the most important French Art Deco furniture designers. Characterized by the use of luxurious materials such as ebony macassar, mahogany, sharkskin and ivory, the French Art Deco was a popular style for domestic interiors, cinema theatres and ocean liners such as Normandie. Our collection offers a glimpse into the splendor of the French Art Deco style, as seen in the work of its leading furniture makers, including Jaques Emile Ruhlmann, Jules Leleu, Dominique, Gilbert Poillerat, Andre Arbus and Jean Prouve. |

Rare walnut mechanical table called “gueridon elevateur” forming a low or dining table. It rests on a central adjustable column, there are four folding legs hidden under the table top. The base is decorated with four fluted columns baring a gunmetal patina. The tabletop is decorated with a sun motif. Stamped J. Leleu on the foot. Model no. 5424.
